About the Founders
Dana Knighten, CJF (2009), is passionate about using journaling for creativity, productivity, and self-exploration. A dedicated journal writer herself since her 20s, Dana is a published poet and an awarded creative nonfiction writer. A former college-level writing teacher and English-as-a-second-language tutor, she blends her poetic gifts and natural artistry in both narrative and visual journaling workshops, on topics including nature, spirituality, body image, healing, creativity, and innovation. Drawing on decades of experience in educational publishing as an award-winning product developer, Dana also designs custom programs for business to teach people new tools to work more innovatively and effectively.
Nancy Evans, M.A., CJF (2009), draws inspiration from the body and began her journal writing practice twenty years ago to help her come to terms with her infertility diagnosis. That life-changing event inspired her primary career in health science publishing and a secondary career as a massage therapist. Now she brings together knowledge from both domains, along with experience teaching college-level writing, to facilitate writing groups and workshops that help people explore health and wellness issues, illness stories, and life stories. Topics range from stress and loss to infertility, cancer, and other pivotal life events.
As the founding partners of the BWWC, Dana and Nancy deliver powerful and often life-changing experiences for people. They co-create and co-facilitate a broad spectrum of programs and work with both groups and individuals to create unique, empowering experiences. Some of their new collaborative work for 2009 focuses on people in transition, including workshops for those who have lost jobs, are retiring, or undergoing life-cycle transitions like menopause.
Both Dana and Nancy are certified instructors of the Journal to the Self workshop and will complete certification as journal facilitators in 2009. They are credentialed by the Center for Journal Therapy in Denver to lead life-based writing groups designed for creative self-expression, life enrichment, and personal growth and/or healing.
